Modern Macaw
5.5x8.5 mixed media in Masters Touch sketchbook 70 lb paper done last Friday with a WetCanvas challenge. The instructions were to do your art without using brushes. Media used: colored pencils, watercolor pencils, oil pastels, markers, charcoal, black India ink. After using those items I did brush on watercolor over the sparse background.

Parrot Perch ~ WIP completed
22x15 watercolor of these merry macaws is completed. Tail feathers were difficult to get shaded golden yellow without making mud, so used transparent quinacridone gold. I wonder what the big bird is saying to his little companion (ref courtesy Lucyloo).

WIP 3 ~ Parrot Perch continued
The larger macaw is mostly done with shadows under feathers, head, beak and breast done. Tail feathers on both glazed first with quinacridone gold and raw sienna and will be in shadow for the most part. I'm liking them without a colored background. Stay tuned for the finish!

WIP 2 ~ Parrot Perch continued
Continuing on with my watercolor work in progress of two parrots perched on their tree branch. These blue gold macaws are so vibrant they are a pleasure to paint. On each bird I've started with the darks first so I'm not guessing at what values need to go where. Stay tuned for more.

WIP ~ Parrot Perch
A work in progress of a pair of blue and gold macaw parrots I'm entering in another WetCanvas online contest due Sunday. Here on this 22x15 Fabriano 140 lb cold press paper, I've colored in the smaller bird using a direct painting method consisting of one application. Stay tuned for tomorrow's reveal.

Blue and Gold Macaw Parrot
8.5x11 watercolor over Sharpie extra fine point pen drawing on Crescent sketchbook done yesterday. The photo I used was cropped to only show the bird's head and upper wings then painted quickly.
