Gull Flying High

6x8 watercolor done last weekend as part of WetCanvas weekend drawing event where participants have 2 hours to do their choice of image. Ref courtesy Rousay who hosted the event. I focused only on one sea gull from her photo containing a flock of them. This is on 140 lb cold press handmade rough paper. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2025

Gull Landing

9x7 watercolor in Masters Touch sketchbook 80 lb paper, done over the past weekend for another WetCanvas Weekend Drawing Event. Ref courtesy Rousay. Participants have 2 hours to select their choice image to paint and this one was done close to an hour. The ref had him landing on grass so I've changed it to water and sky. COPYRIGHT 2024 Kay Smith

Seagull Swarm

4.25x6.25 watercolor on Fabriano 140 lb cold press rough paper painted a few days ago for an online challenge. There were so many of the gulls so I cropped several out of the composition. They are loud, pesky, and annoying but I do love to see them and paint them. COPYRIGHT 2020 Kay Smith

Sweetheart Seagull

5x7 mixed media collage on paper begun on Valentine's Day Friday then finished today.  I used the inside of my sweetheart's card envelope which was brown to sketch the gull in ink with Micron 01 pen.  Then collaged white paper for its head.  Oil pastels, gouache and watercolor were other media used.  The gull was then adhered to matboard with matte medium a brayer to smooth out air pockets.
