Spring Drips Abstract

9x12 acrylics on Canson 138 lb mixed media paper done last week, the first of three abstracts using same colors as taught by Yvette St. Amant's beginner's online course. The areas at top represent either florals or trees and wet paint was let drip downwards for a loose effect. I really enjoy the Spring colors in this exercise. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Turquoise Toffee Abstract

12x9 acrylics on canvas pad done yesterday, another abstract from the instruction of Yvette St. Amant online tutorials. The bold gold seen here was from a bottle of metallic gold purchased from the dollar store that gives a nice warm glow to the blues and tans. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Gray with Gold Accents abstraction

18x12 acrylics on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done a few days ago for an online tutorial by Yvette St. Amant. In this exercise we were instructed to apply gray paint thinly in layers then add golden yellow. My gray hue was mixed as I did not have it. The third color was green. When dry we had to add black squiqqly calligraphy marks to one side and all sides were to be left fairly white of the paper. These colors are reversed from the previous post. Plight of the Circus Elephant

26.25x22.25 acrylics on gessoed failed painting of a birdcage on Kilimanjaro 140 lb cold press wc paper done yesterday.  The birdcage's horizontal lines seems to encase the massive animal where he cannot escape.

Cobalt Blue abstract art

30x22 acrylic on Lanaquarelle 140 lb hot press paper, painted last week in Douglas Walton's workshop here at our Heritage Museum. Initially I had designed this to be a horizontal nonobjective work, with cobalt sky at the top.  However, Doug likes to change, shake up, and mix up, so he had me turn it vertically then finish development.  Lastly, I used bubble wrap stamping to unify the design and you can see it if you look closer or enlarge the image.  Again, our work was all developed from 3x3 tiny squares of various color combinations.

Aspen Illusions

30x22 acrylic and collage on Lana 140 lb hot press paper done this past week in Douglas Walton's workshop.  From a 3x3 inch square I painted the edges then pink and yellow areas following its patterns, then added black next.  The design needed more pizzazz so yellow tissue paper was collaged on with a half Elmer's glue/half water solution.  This work is now hanging in the Heritage Museum group show.
