Incredible Irises

15x22 watercolor on Lanaquarelle 140 lb hot press paper from one of my iris photos begun last Wednesday.  This is painted wet on dry with multiple glazes.  I decided not to include the green background of leaves and other plants as seen in the photo.  The white of the paper is enough to showcase their beauty from the elegant apricot bloom on the right to the orange and purple others.

Irresistible Irises

15x22 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper, that I posted last year, and have now done more work on the piece.  I used fake paper irises in a decorative pot to draw them from life as mine now are not blooming due to Texas' continuing drought.  So for now will have to look at my art instead of outside for inspiration or wherever it can be found.

Red Irises in oil

24x18 palette knife oil using Winsor Newton Artisan watersoluble paints on gessoed board.  From a drawing I did from life of a purple iris I changed into red; this image shows a bit pink as it is more red actually.  Background is imaginary with various shades of blues, white, and lemon yellow.

15x22 inches watercolor on Italia 140 lb paper by Dick Blick. Drawn from pale yellow fake iris blooms, the color here is totally made up and is painted wet on dry. Some spritzing with water and splattering of paint done at random.
