Paper Poppy

5.5x8.5 watercolor collage using White Nights over paper in Master's Touch sketchbook end of December. I used a part of a toilet seat cover adhered onto the support and when dry painted the red poppy. So fun to see where the pigment goes and is not predictable. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2024

Wild June Poppy

8×8 watercolor using White Nights paints done today in about 1.5 hours on Masters Touch Premium 140 lb cold press paper. I enjoyed making up the background in an abstract manner. My photo was more vertical so the bottom was cropped. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Blown Poppy

3.75x2.75 watercolor on Canson paper 140 lb. cold press done yesterday, an exercise of putting down successive colors and blowing paint via a straw to create ragged edges. Splattering was done when dry using pink and green. No pencil was used. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

Summer Days Bouquet

22x24 watercolor on Fabriano 140 lb cold press paper completed a few days ago, a floral arrangement based upon the smaller alcohol ink one done recently.  The glass vase holds a variety of blooms, eucalyptus leaves and Chinese lanterns.

Poppies by the Fence

22.25 x 16.25 watercolor on Langton Prestige 140 lb cold press paper painted today using multiple poppy photos.  I did quite a lot of negative painting in the background and worked wet on dry for the most part.

Poppy Perfume

5x4 alcohol inks on photo paper done a few days ago when I was actually working with yellow, gold, pale green and orange abstract and got this design that looked more like a poppy.

Poppified - the Art of Poppies
