12x9 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper/Daniel Smith paints done today in under two hours for another online event in WetCanvas; hosted by Helen. I added foliage and grass to this scene and extended the foreground. Shadow patterns were so unique and difficult to draw and paint but enjoyable.

Red Patio Chair and Geraniums Plein Air
9x10.25 watercolor and ink line on sketchbook paper done today on my patio. The red wicker chair was moved outside for this plein air paint out I sponsored for all of our Watercolor Horizons Group located in Odessa, TX. The old metal pail bucket has a crooked handle and is not this large. The small blue birdhouse and chair cushion are from a dollar store. Silk faux green ivy is in a black metal basket above the birdhouse. Sketching was done with Pigma Micron 01 pen. Splattering was added when dry at the end using Grumbacher true red pigment.

Purple Bench
22x15 watercolor on Yupo synthetic paper done awhile ago that is the front of my studio. The purple bench is in front and did have yellow window boxes behind. Those boxes are gone now. This sunny morning scene with geraniums, petunias, and bougainvilleas was an inviting sight. The studio is still pale yellow but window trim is now hot pink and shutters are spring green. The bench was repainted a soft lavender purple; all that is missing is Jezebel the cat.

The Patio
6x8.5 watercolor and ink line on light blue tinted ColorSketch paper done for illustrated journaling Sketchbook Skool assignment. Soon these geraniums et al will be moved indoors as cold weather should begin next week. The blue green bistro set will stay out. This year my pink hydrangeas did not bloom due to lack of water but here I've included them along with tiger lilies that were not too plentiful either.

Green Wicker and Clay Goat
15x22 watercolor of my old pale green wicker patio chair with clay goat planter from New Mexico. It held a pot that made fascinating shadow patterns across the chair back. This painting was one of the first ones published in a book by Christopher Willard on color mixing, the 12-hue method by Rockport publishers.

Collage Beginning Stages
The canvas is slanted but maybe you can still see its beginnings of the line drawing and adherence of torn paper scraps in dark gray for the metal watering can. Next I tackled the background which was to be white. Susie taught us that white paper needs to be white on both sides and she uses some photo paper that she scribbles or doodles on. At upper left mine is too gray and is the wrong value for white so later had to collage over that.Wednesday, March 23, 2011
