First Rose of Spring

12x12 watercolor and Brusho wc crystals on 140 lb cold press paper started yesterday in pencil from my first blooming rose, a peace rose bush, at my studio.  First the paper was spritzed with water then dilute permanent rose paint applied.  When dry, spritzed again at random and dusted Crimson Brusho watercolor crystals over that.  Lastly a pencil sketch was drawn of the rose and each petal was developed.  Background was partly negative painting and positive shapes wet in wet.  (Brusho is by Colourcraft/UK)

Red Rose on a Cold Day

6x4.5 watercolor on Bristol 100 lb/300 series paper done a few days ago, sketched in pencil from life using a silk rose.  Colors were applied in a direct manner with one application and lots of water.
