Delightful Daisies

11x14 watercolor on Yupo synthetic paper completed today after about 3 days of painting.  I used several of my own daisy photos, selecting which blooms to use for this brush only (no pencil) composition.  As usual Yupo provided nice surprises in areas where it mixed with other colors.

White Roses

22x15 watercolor of some of my climbing roses planted in the front of the house.  This is painted wet in wet on 140 lb Saunders cold press paper. I snapped several photos when they were blooming at their peak then painted them. Not happy with the mid section it was reworked and more negative leaves, stems, and thorns added. My favorite part is the rosebud upper right. It was painted wet in wet and colors allowed to mix and mingle.  Daniel Smith paints used.

Stephie's White Poppy

9x12 watercolor done last week while on a short vacation.  Photo courtesy of my friend Stephie who put it in the reference image library on WetCanvas.  I really enjoy painting white subjects as it is a challenge to get values right.

Climbing White Roses

22x15 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Saunders Waterford that I finished yesterday.  These climbing white roses were by our front steps and I snapped several photos when they were blooming at their peak then painted them.  Not happy with the mid section it was reworked and more negative leaves, stems, and thorns added.  My favorite part is the rosebud upper right.  It was painted wet in wet.

White Petunias

6x8 watercolor on 140 lb paper, an older floral drawn from life using a hanging basket of white petunias.  The background was painted a salmon orange and it seemed to complement and compliment the green foliage.  This work is SOLD.

Frilly Lily

15x22 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper/Daniel Smith and American Journey paints done today.  Our temps got to 69 F today so warmer days make me think of florals.  Also with so many sketches and mixed media lately I was afraid I'd lost my mojo with transparent watercolor.  Love doing white subjects with the medium and yesterday's white pelican will be shown tomorrow, also a watercolor, but on a quarter sheet 11x15.COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2015.
