White Poppy Frills

11x15 watercolor using White Nights paints on Strathmore 140 lb cold press block done today after a quick pencil sketch on the main outlines of the frilly poppy. Torn tissue paper was collaged/adhered to various areas using matte medium and let dry overnight; this provides texture and unusual color formations. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Cosmos Crazy

4x3.5 mixed media on 140 lb. cold press paper done last week. In this imaginary floral, I used alcohol inks (first layer as a pulled print), watercolor, acrylics, and gouache. Cosmos are an all time favorite flower to depict in any media. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

Crimson Bloom in Junk Journal

8.25x5.25 mixed media in re-purposed junk journal, an old hardback book from 1950. For this funky floral I used a Stencil Girl stencil for the flower and dusted it with crimson Brusho wc crystals then added water. Other media used were watercolor, collage of cocktail napkin, Montana acrylic marker for background, acrylics, crayon, colored pencils, and real leaves used as stamps after coating with green watermedia. A Pink Hibiscus

12x9 mixed media on Canson 140 lb cold press paper done yesterday for August Watermedia challenge on WetCanvas.  Ref courtesy of Deborah.  The backside has abstract acrylic and alcohol ink marks hence the colored areas seen on the front that watercolor can't cover up.  White gouache, watercolor, and Caran D'Ache watersoluble colored pencils used over the Magic colored pencils sketch.  I held two Magic (multi-lead) pencils together while sketching for a looser look.

Fat Blue Vase of Blooms

10x8 mixed media on paper finished today, painting with a background of alcohol inks overlaid with acrylics. The mass of blooms tumbling out of the blue vase consists of daisies, tulips. blackeyed susans, and many other colored shapes.

Cosmos Afternoon ~ Demo Acrylic Inks

8.5x11 acrylic inks floral on watercolor paper done this afternoon as a demonstration for Odessa Art Association.  I have used the same pink cosmos photo and edited out other blooms in it to focus on one large flower and several supporting new ones.  This paint dries almost immediately and it is a slightly opaque look compared to transparent watercolors.

Posies

8.5x5.5 India inks/Micron 01 pen on Bienfang for mixed media sketchbook begun yesterday and finished today.  These watermedia flowers could be poppies, roses, or tulips hence the posies title.  I only used blue, yellow and red inks and mixed the green using blue and yellow.  Not too bad for a 20 minute imaginary exercise.

WIP Watermedia beginning painting

Now is time to begin laying in color, the fun part, behind the lower right sunflower and background.  I will probably leave in the white areas left that were under the coffee filters as that might be a nice suprise element.  With no photo references to guide me, this one will be pure intuition and color sense, or just plain nonsense!
