Poppy Pose

8x8 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper painted a couple of days ago, still trying out the new wc paper.  This was done wet in wet also and the colors still sink into the tooth too much.  Sorry yesterday's post was absent due to no Internet connection.  I'll be trying another floral wet on dry to see if the paper improves.

Poppy Poetry

15x11 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper painted this afternoon using only a #38 round brush (no pencil drawing) and totally imaginary.  With spritzing and using lots of water I came up with this poetic arrangement of poppies swaying in the pre-Spring winds.

Imperial Pink Poppies

8.5x5.5 watercolor and ink with collaged stems which is today's work.  After drawing the floral with Micron 01 pen on Masters Touch 70 lb paper, I painted the pink poppies first, then the mixed greens.  All that was left was the background and stems.  I thought why not cut out gardening text sentences in green if I could find them, and did, then collage onto dry paper with matte medium.  Dark background is quinacridone burnt orange and indigo with small amount of green gold.  Negative painting was done upper right mysterious poppy bud and below left corner.  This was total fun!

Poppies in Jar

4x2.5 watercolor and ink on 140 lb cold press paper of various red and yellow orange poppies in canning jars, a popular version of an earlier artist trading card that sold quickly.  This work is SOLD.

Poppy Panache

16x28 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper, drawn from imagination and excitement over painting poppies again.  Some of the blooms are fragmented, upside down, windblown or curvy, but each has its own panache in this loose, splashy floral.
