Waif Dog
8.5x6 watercolor of a small dog, rather sad looking mutt, right after a major tornado hit his town. I've no idea how his story turned out but he definitely is a waif for sure. He was in the corner in one of the news articles showing devastation and ruin, so hope he found his owner.

Truck Watchdog ~ National Dog Day
11x7 watercolor over pencil sketch of a dog, Australian shepherd, poking his head out a pickup truck window in honor of National Dog Day today. Love to paint dogs but don't want to own one again. This is on paper 140 lb cold press.

Dobermans
11x15 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Canson paper done today as part of WetCanvas! Weekend Drawing Event. Participants have 2 hours to choose and develop a painting. Reference courtesy Joanne Nemeth. Her photo had only two dogs and the head of a third one but no body, so I drew the far left Doberman in reverse. The middle dog is a reddish brown color; they remind me of the ones we had thru the years of my first marriage to John Bumpers. On the far right Doberman I cast his left eye downward. Now there are 3 happy fellows cavorting along the water's edge.

Happy Hound
8.5x6 watercolor drawn yesterday and painting begun, then finished this morning before work. In between commissions, shows, traveling, marketing, and other exhibits (mostly out of town) I'm busy doing a pet portrait daily to post on our dog and cat Tumblr blog, Bowwows and Meows. Lately I've been experimenting using a nose from one breed and ears from a different animal and/or fur and hair colors. The small portraits are designed to show an unusual angle or composition. Support used here is ColorSketch paper with Daniel Smith pigments and is lightly tinted a pale yellow.

Crazy Pink Chihuahua
8.5x6 watercolor and Pigma Micron 01 pen of a crazy chihuahua, painted wildly this past weekend on Color Sketch paper. I'd seen a very small chihuahua in a girl's purse on Friday at the hospital where I work, and he looked a lot like one I had growing up named Peanut. That fellow was given away after he "christened" my new Barbie doll and her house and Corvette...In this work, he seems to be saying "I'm baaaaaacck!"

Expressionistic Spaniel
6x8.5 watercolor on blue tinted paper/Daniel Smith paints. I drew this Cavalier King Charles spaniel in about 10 minutes yesterday then spent about 35 minutes painting in an Expressionistic style today. To me, she appears very happy chewing her bone so I used vivid brights and not local color. Karmela belongs to Thaesha in California, this weekend's drawing event host on WetCanvas in the All Media Art Events forum. She set two challenges for us and I chose to paint in this style rather than my usual realism. I hope she likes how happy I've made her pet portrait! It was a fun one to do. Thanks, Thaesha!
