Garden Gear Supervisor

 

6x6 watercolor and ink line wash on Masters paper done on Friday for a WetCanvas challenge.  When almost through I added the tabby cat under the bench supervising the gardening chores.

Chickadee with Watercan and Pansies - Demo

11x15 watercolor floral still life with bird and watering can, a demo done last night for Brownfield Art Association.  I had previously drawn the composition that featured my old metal watercan and fresh pansies, photographed a few years ago.  The chickadee was added as if he just flew by and stopped to check out the Spring colorful annuals, and will fit nicely into my series.  This was a timed demonstration of one hour, wet on dry using Canson 140 lb paper with Daniel Smith paints.

Spring's in the Air - watercolor demo today

15x11 watercolor on Arches 140 lb cold press paper, a vignette of imaginary spring blooms, watercan, and little hummingbird.  Today I took off work and did the Snyder, Texas Palette Club program, held at their airport.  It was loads of fun on a bright and sunny spring day!

Garden Friends

10x7 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper of various garden items and freshly cut flowers in my old metal pail.  Due to little rain this spring we had hardly any flowers to look at.  Here I've added imaginary cosmos, poppies, larkspur, etc., all sitting on worn out wooden folding chair.  This work is now SOLD.

Spring Flowers with Watercan

The title of this new one done this weekend is "Spring has Sprung", an imaginary floral garden watercolor complete with old metal watering can sprinkling an array of daffodils, poppies, bluebonnets, larkspur, daisies, etc.  Its size is 15x22 and painted on Arches 140 lb cold press paper using Daniel Smith paints in a wet on dry manner.

Watercan Flowers in Pastel

11x15 Rembrandt pastels on Canson pastel paper of a small watercan I bought then stuck flowers in.  I really liked the seed packet logo on its side and am getting anxious to plant some spring blooms.

Collage - Next Step: More Glue!

The "white" background and inbetween spaces is now collaged with white, off white, and other neutral values of torn paper. Some areas still need to be covered again as I don't want the grays in the watercan to have conflicting values. It needs to be prominent, at least until all pansies are done. Most of them are in as seen here and hot pink one needs to be more pale for contrast. All in all, a fun time and I'm learning more as I go along. Susie advised to add light white acrylic to the background if needed.

Torn Paper Collage on Canvas

This is "Bloomsday Pansies", 16x20 paper collage on wrapped canvas. It was begun on Saturday in Colorado City at Studio 20 under the direction of Susie Powell of Plains, Texas.
With this type collage method, you tear colored papers you need instead of using scissors.
Draw with black Sharpie directly onto canvas, then fit pieces of torn paper into the shapes.
Adhere with Liquitex gloss medium brushed on the support then on top of the paper. Varnish when dry.
