Mister Mystery male figure

22x15 gouache watermedia over charcoal drawing of a mysterious tall, dark, and handsome man on Arches 140 lb hot press paper.  I collaged 4 large phone book yellow pages onto the watercolor paper with half matte medium, half water, then applied 3 strips lengthwise of 1" masking tape, waited 10 minutes then pulled off various parts of the pages that would remove (use a wide palette knife to make sure the tape sticks).  After drying, I began drawing over the collage then applied gouache (watercolor with white added).  The phone book pages collage was taught to us by instructor Liz Hill of Houston last October.  Thank you Liz! Cay Island Woman Kaye - finished

15x22 gouache and charcoal over hot press watercolor paper (Fabriano) with a few finishing touches sorted for the final version from yesterday's post.  I smoothed out the dog image that appeared on her cheek under her left eye by adding a gouache mix of white, orange, and fuchsia.  Hopefully it reads better now.

Figure Demo - Watermedia collage

22x15 gouache, watercolor, acrylic, collage, charcoal, oil pastels on Arches 140 lb hot press paper.  This was my demo in Lubbock TX yesterday in which I had one hour to do the painting.  I used a photo I took of a mannequin then changed her dress to a white shirt; collage on paper goes first using telephone book yellow pages, then design developed.  Colorful scarf is Christmas paper wrapping.  Its title is "Let Your Fingers Do the Walking".  Demo was for the West Texas Watercolor Society, 511 Ave. K, Lubbock.

Beverly - mixed media figure

22x15 charcoal drawn figure on 140 lb hot press Fabriano paper with gouache paint and Caran D'Ache crayon accents.  Paper was prepared by adhering old phone book pages with half matte medium and half water then pulling off leaving parts of the Fabriano visible.
This woman was at a neighborhood hat party and had her eyes closed while talking.  Background elements are imaginary abstractions.

Unlisted Number - watermedia collage

22x15 Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper, charcoal drawing of a mannikin profile, then watercolor, gouache, and gift wrap paper from Dollar General used as collage in parts on her blouse. I had painted this figure before only reverse profile using transparent watercolor.
The hot press paper was treated first using a technique Liz Hill taught us in her class last month where you lay phone book pages down then peel them off, hence the title.

Rosemary II

22x15 watercolor, gouache, watersoluble crayon and colored pencil, plus charcoal.  This painting was done last weekend and I have reversed the image from the first time I drew this figure.  In the first one I used paper napkin collage as well as acrylics for the pattern and background respectively.   

Pixie - figure in gouache

22x15 gouache on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper, also drawn from a live model.  I did lots of sponging off and repainting of her skin tones and clothing, and have not added collage yet but may do so.

Attitude - a watermedia collage figure

22x15 watercolor, gouache, collage over life drawn figure in  charcoal done in Liz Hill's class a few days ago at Wenmoh's Ranch.  Stamping was done using my hand carved block; rose red giftwrap make up the collar, cuffs, and trim on the model's shirt jacket. I also used colored pencil at random.
