Red Orange Cactus Flowers

Goat Group

6.5x9 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper painted today wet on dry, using my 2008 goat reference Tombow brush pen ink sketch. After I did a loose pencil drawing colors were laid in using a #6 round synthetic brush, darks first, then medium tones, then white of the paper in this barnyard vignette. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Pine Siskin

9x4.75 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper, first done in 2016, then last week I did an experiment with the bird art, pouring pale pink/pale blue acrylic. After letting the acrylics (mixed with silicone) settle, I rinsed off the paint under the faucet before they could dry. In return there is now a nice abstract background and a softening of the elements. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith

Playful Pearl

6.5x9.25 watercolor over quick rough pencil sketch of my new kitten Pearl, on 140 lb cold press Saunders paper, done on first day of August. I have taken many photos of her and this one is loose and has lost edges. I did use crimson India ink with a chopstick when dry to add line emphasis here and there. COPYRIGHT 2022 Kay Smith
