15x22 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper, painted quickly then partially outlined using black India ink. I splattered paint when dry. Painting barnyard creatures, especially chickens, is too much fun. Growing up on a farm, one of my chores was to gather and wash eggs in Pine Sol. To this day I hate the smell of that disinfectant.

Silverware or Whose Turn is it to Empty the Dishwasher?
7.25 x 11 inches mixed media on matboard covered with gesso, toilet seat tissue covers, newsprint. Watercolor, colored pencil, Caran D'Ache, India ink, black fine tip Sharpie were media used. I like how the gesso gives an impression of dishes back behind the silverware. Newsprint included words about food; this piece was entered into a weekend competition on WetCanvas online.

Woven Flowers of Passion
15x22 two watercolors painted identically, then cut one in wavy horizontal strips and the other vertical and woven together to make a new painting. I hated the original pink and red roses scene with a white cottage in background so this was a neat way to salvage the work and create a little interest. It has been secured to matboard to keep it straight and sturdy.

Second Demo of Pears - Watercolor Collage
More Pears on Pepper Plate, demo done Wednesday, about an hour, for the workshop on pears. This one is 15x22 matboard with collaged tissue (toilet seat covers) and paperback The Winds of War pages, and newsprint type. Also has white gesso in a few areas. The board was prepared ahead of time and when dry I drew the peppers then the pears. Transparent watercolor was next and black India ink line around some of the peppers for distinction. One of the students bought it so it is SOLD.

Aunt Bea's Barn
15x22 watercolor, copyright 2009 Kay Smith. For more information about this nostalgic old scene contact me 1971ks@att.net or visit my personal website www.kaysmithbrushworks.us
This old barn was a demo painting done as a composite of two decrepit structures. Wild sunflowers added on its right side from a photo at Aunt Bea's Antiques here in town, hence the title.
