Raggedy

9x8.25 ink sketch in sketchbook done for #inktober2025 last month, day 15, when the prompt for ink sketchers was "raggedy". Raggedy Ann and Andy came to mind hence this view of Ann. These dolls were introduced via stories in 1918 after being patented in 1915. I used technical pen STA Lictin 0.3 for this challenge in the annual October event. COPYRIGHT Kay Smith 2025

Trunk

October Black Hollyhocks

22x15 watercolor done on 140 lb cold press paper done first of October from one of my many hollyhock photos. I was especially proud of these so called black ones, which actually are a very deep reddish purple hue. Brighteyed Barn Owl

Regal Rose

Chickadee at the Feeder

11.5x7.5 mixed media collage on wc paper done week before last. Ref courtesy Cindy on WetCanvas for a challenge this month. I first painted the chickadee as 4x3 miniature but chopped its tail which necessitated putting it into a larger format. Materials included newsprint, watercolor, acrylics, Montana markers, Micron 03 ink pen, Winsor Newton grey fine liner pen, various collage, and a black Sharpie marker. Pink Desert Saguaro

15x5.5 watercolor on Blick 140 lb cold press paper, an imaginary pink desert scene done a couple of weeks ago while on a trip out of state. The pink tones of the sand echoes throughout the sky and other desert landscape parts such as vegetation, rocks, hills, etc. The icon of the desert is the stately saguaro which I never tire from painting. Woven Wild Strawberry ~ demo Palette Club

10x8 watercolor that is actually two paintings almost identical cut into vertical then horizontal strips and woven together to create one image. This is on Canson paper and was the demo for Midland Palette Club class of 15 held last evening. Limited palette of Daniel Smith pigments were ultramarine blue, permanent rose, and nickel azo yellow. November Barn Owl ~ torn paper collage

Broomsticks and Lipsticks

5.5x8 ink sketch with watercolor added done for a past #InkTober, three fun witches and their fancy brooms. I loved the black lipstick the figurine dolls wore along with elegant brocade costumes.
