Alto Chickadee

6.5x7.5 watercolor on Kilimanjaro 140 lb cold press paper done this afternoon in about 30 minutes, very loosely painted of a black-capped chickadee I photographed in Alto, New Mexico last September.  The bird in the pine tree allowed me to get very close as he had his eye on my full bird feeder.  Mountain wildlife is very interesting.

Chickadee Season

9x12 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper completed this afternoon.  I've used the same bird sketch from a few days ago and flipped it, then its coloring to that of a black-capped chickadee.  We see plenty of them when in New Mexico and this fellow is perched on some type of plant I can't identify.  Autumn leaves in orange, rust and red complete the natural wildlife.  Splatters added when dry.

Chickadee in a Christmas Tree

10.25x9 watercolor done today.  It is my version of a little chickadee removed from his post he was perched on in the WetCanvas reference, and placed in a loose, splashy tree.  No brush was used, just spritzed paper with water and added several greens, then sprayed sap green in a mister, splattered white gouache, let dry, then with a no. 1 rigger brush, put the darks in his head and wings by negative painting.

Chickadee Trio

6.5x4.5 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper done today.  I was in a mood to continue with another imaginary blackcapped chickadee painting in my series.  Right now I have too many series going on! The cows, the chefs, the wild women, the food, you name it.  Besides, I've not done any chickadees in awhile.  Tomorrow the plan is to start one of the little birds in a torn paper collage and probably finish that later.
