Boss of the Barnyard chickens

15x22 watercolor on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper, drawn and painted this afternoon in a loose, splashy manner.  This old rooster is hurrying the innocent young hen inside the chicken coop to show her who's boss of the barnyard.  There are a few touches of black India ink on the birds, plus spattering at the end when all was dry.

Tyson Farms Hens and Rooster

20x16 watercolor of a rooster and his hens by their chicken coop; this work is SOLD.  I used one of many poultry photos taken at my friend David's country farm.  They look so scared, initially its title was "Terror at Tyson Farms" as they might have been hearing they were taking a trip to market.

Chick Chat

4.5x7 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done this weekend while in the mountains.  These are my friend Mollie's chickens having a nice chick chat in their coop.  They live in Flint, close to Noonday and Tyler TX.

Eggstra-ordinary Hen

11x15 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper, Daniel Smith paints.  It has been quite a long time since painting one of my fun yet funky chickens with an attitude.  In this vignette, the hen seems to be cackling at her three eggs or at something else beyond the coop.

Mad as a Wet Hen

15x22 watercolor and ink on 140 lb cold press paper, drawn using several photos then painted wet in wet.  After it dried I went back in with black India ink for minimal line work and loaded watercolor onto a brush for splatters of paint.

Barnyard Boss

15x11 watercolor on rice paper using wax resist of two fowl birds, a rooster and a hen, that were drawn from life.
