Concrete Jungle elephants

16x20 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper using a limited palette of burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, and quinacridone gold completed today for an online challenge (photo courtesy Pixabay).  This one took two days to get it just right as it is largely a painting of neutrals with dark, medium, and light values.

Giraffes Grazing

7x10 mixed watermedia collage on Canson mixed media paper. Drawn with an orange Magic colored pencil, then a fast underpainting with transparent pyrrol orange/quinacridone gold watercolors was done.  When dry, I added brown and quin burnt orange patterns with some green, then the bg foliage.  After that dried I used brown torn tissue paper that had small squares and a giftwrap paper featuring colored circles, adhered with matte medium.  Lastly, I used a blue Magic pencil to make calligraphy marks in bg trees and bushes.

#InkTober day 25 ~ Zoo Elephants

9x12 watercolor with walnut ink on Canson 140 lb cold press paper; other colors used were raw umber and Payne's grey.  Sketch done with Staedtler 0.3 pigment liner pen in black.  Today is the 25th day of  #InkTober (October), so only 6 days left.  This limited palette I think captured the elephant hide hues well and walnut ink provided the dusty clouds.

Two Giraffes - Day 30!

12x9 gouache and ink on old accounting ledger paper done today, the last day of one painting/day for this month.  These two funky fellows were sketched with Staedtler Lumocolor Permanent pen, and are the courtesy of Joel on WetCanvas.  He hosted the current weekend drawing event.

Since 9-1-15, I've posted daily works on Leslie Saeta's #30paintingsin30days challenge she hosts annually on her blog Slices of Life you can see HERE.  She plans to host another challenge in January 2016.

Giraffe Park

12x9 watercolor of a pair of giraffes in a nature park and they seem to be in love.  All their pattern was done brush only and was not pre-drawn with pencil.  This is painted on Canson Montval 140 lb cold press paper.
