Old Cowboy

14x11 mixed media on mixed media pad using India ink, brush pen, Micron 01, white Posca pen and charcoal done earlier in the month of no one in particular; just coming off the 30 faces in 30 days challenge was the inspiration. Including eyeglasses in your portraits was one of the #sktchy features this time. COPYRIGHT 2024 Kay Smith

Cowboy and His Horse

9x12 ink using black Tombow brush pen on Bristol board 300 series done last week.  With no pencil drawing beforehand, only dark areas were put in first then water added for greys; white is the white of the paper.

Western Woman

9x12 India ink on vintage book text collaged to Canson watercolor paper, a faces class demo done this morning. Using a chopstick as a drawing instrument dipped into black ink, lines and shapes were put in to resemble features. I especially liked the straw hat the model wore.

Roping Horses

11x15 watercolor and India ink on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper done this afternoon.  The photo I used was a full body view of the cowboy's horse so I cropped into it quite a bit and edited out background and foreground clutter, then added an extra horse.  Splattering was done on the main horse when paint was drying so some spots are blended while others such as the black ink, are not.
