Reworked White Callas Floral Watercolor

24x18 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper reworked yesterday after seeing it in my floral painting pile, looking forlorn and needing attention.  The background was darkened using carbazole violet, quin burnt orange, UB, quin violet, and indigo.  Each lily was enhanced and dew or water drops added about.  Shadows were glazed again and overall colors were pushed to the max.  I do think I like it much better now than in the original work below from January 2013 that you can read about HERE.

Work in Progress: Calling All Callas

24x18 watercolor WIP (work in progress), of a calla lily grouping I drew on Friday then began painting today.  I used Canson Montval block with Daniel Smith paints, wet on dry, encouraging drips and run-backs.  This is about 1.5 hours of work.  I still must finish the stems of mixed greens and one more lower right petal, then decide if a background color is needed or not.  Painting whites is such a challenge! But I love a challenge.  So stay tuned.

Calla Lilies Talavera style

22x30 watercolor and ink on Saunders Waterford 140 lb cold press paper.  Taking a cue from Talavera pottery that I collect and love, I used a single white calla lily and drew exaggerated shapes then added pattern one might see on the famous designs.  These wild and crazy blooms are done in desert colors of taupe, raw sienna, quinacridone gold and burnt orange, indigo for the stamens, and mixed greens for leaves.
