House Down the Street

9x12 watercolor using brush only of a southwestern style house down the street in New Mexico.  With its red tile roof and surround pines, spruce and evergreen trees, it is very attractive.  This house portrait shows its white stucco well against the surrounding landscape.

Oregon Building

10.25x9 gouache and ink on paper done today as part of another weekend drawing event on WetCanvas. The challenge set by the host, Holly, was to work only from a monochromatic image so that is what I did here, not using a colored version of the building scene.  Sketched last night with a Pitt XS pen, it was painted today, reminding me of the white stucco structures in Greece.  Stained glass windows decorate its lower half and hollyhock flowers were imaginary added by me for balance.

Spanish Building

8.5x5.5 watercolor and ink line (Micron 01 pen) on Masters sketchbook done this past weekend.  As part of a WetCanvas weekend drawing event, we had only 2 hours to choose a reference (courtesy Wendy) and paint it.  If not done at the 2 hour mark participants must photograph the stage they've reached at that time and post it.  We should paint without interruption but that is not always possible.
Here I have cropped a tall white stucco building in Ronda, Spain.  I like the small iron balconies and the cast shadows; the photo did not have red tile roofline but I changed it for more emphasis.

All Around the Town

12x9 watercolor on Langton 140 lb cold press paper/Daniel Smith paints and Winsor Newton.  First I sketched the scene using black ultrafine Sharpie pen and did crosshatching in darkest value areas such as doorways and windows, then painted it.  At the very end, a woman was added.  Photo ref courtesy my friend Kev Fowler who took it in Skiathos, Greece; buildings edited out for clarity and design.
