Old Santa Claus abstract - BEFORE
Thai-Dyed Woman (reworked abstract acrylic)
30x22 watercolor, acrylic, black India ink, black marker on 140 lb Winsor Newton cold press paper, painted in 3 hours today. I used an old horrible abstract of Santa Claus that was horizontal, flipped it, drew an outline of this Thai woman (reference from Dewi, thanks!) then painted her, leaving her skin the original underpainting patterns.

Cub Scouts
16 x 20.5 mixed media on matboard. After covering the support with matte medium, I let it dry, then spritzed white Krylon webbing spray. I drew the bears with various Caran D'Ache watersoluble crayons, then applied watercolors as I usually paint. The webbing provided a unique texture to paint over, so this was a thrill, and I enjoyed the variations in background and foreground that came from the matte medium where it did not completely cover the mat. Negative painting done for grassy areas and in around the cubs and mama. Photo courtesy WetCanvas reference.

Independence Day
15x11 watercolor on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper from my photo taken over the 4th July weekend at Century21, Alto, New Mexico. With Old Glory draping the deck scene and a pot of red geraniums cheering it on, the nice sunny day says "Let Freedom Ring!"
I used #28 round brush with NO pencil drawing, simply getting what I wanted to say said in one go.

Sunflower Power - a reworked watercolor
15x22 watercolor over a failed vertical figure painting of my neighbor Jan in a purple suit with hat. Done while in the mountains for the 4th of July holiday, this one I thought would be another disaster but do like its idiosyncrasies. Look closely and you can see her eyes in the large green leaf upper right. After I return home I'll upload the original BEFORE version for comparison. This is on Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper that I scrubbed most of the paint off before drawing the flower in pencil.
