Autumn's End

Merry Christmas Cardinal
6x4 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done at first of December, a cheery male cardinal from my many bird photos. This painting was a gift today at the Big Spring Art Association party hosted at the Heritage Museum. Linda Rupard Irvin was the lucky recipient of this cardinal art.

Pink Poinsettia Petals
8x8 watercolor done today using White Nights paints on Master's Touch 140 lb cold press paper, a loose rendition of a dark pink poinsettia leaves. I first sprayed water on the surface pencil sketch then added colors allowing them to run wild. With only one direct application this one was finished fairly quickly.

Mid December Cardinal
10x8 paper collage on wrapped canvas, an exciting bird art created by adding paper pieces with glue then an overall varnish. Done last week, I was on a small series of cardinals. We are lucky to see them outside mingling with other birds for berries, nuts, and suet.

Winter Birch and Cardinal
12x9 watercolor on Bristol paper using White Nights paints, done the past weekend. In this imaginary snowy landscape, it is easy to see the remnants of autumn under the white powder. A lone male cardinal sits high in the birch branches watching his environment.

Cardinal Birdhouse

Holly Jolly Santa
8.5x5.5 mixed media done last week of an imaginary Santa Claus portrait. I used Winsor Newton sepia 0.3 fine liner pen, White Nights watercolors, Crayola Pip Squeak washable markers, and Tombow brush pens for portraits. This is in Master's Touch mixed media sketchbook. Lots of fun creating Old St. Nick as he's always smiling.

A Snowman's Chickadee

Barn Owl in Brusho and Ink

Santa in White Hat

No Fly Zone
15x22 watercolor on Lanaquarelle 140 lb hot press paper, drawn and painted on one of our famous 90 degrees F days, with no snow in sight. This was taken at my friend Carole's in east Texas and earned a point for me with the Western Federation of Watercolor Societies.
These sparrows and one goldfinch were trying to keep warm and their frozen birdbath is behind them. I used Coastal Fog, Coffee with Cream, Brown Derby, Sepia, UB, QBO, permanent rose, and wet the back only.
