Garden Cherry Tomatoes

8.25x5.25 watercolor in my grunge/junk journal sketched today using STA Lictin 0.2 pigment liner pen.  The vintage book from 1950 has had this page gessoed partly and text is visible outside that.  This veggie still life is one of the featured weekend drawing event images on WetCanvas, courtesy Mike B.  Participants have 2 hours to select then paint or draw one of the photos the host selects.  These sweet cherry tomatoes remind us that summer is coming again.

Green and Red Tomatoes

2.5x3.5 watercolor vegetable still life of two tomatoes sharing a single stem.  This miniature was drawn and painted today on Canson 140 lb cold press paper and is an ACEO art card (Artists Cards Editions & Originals).  I like to use complementary colors such as red and green together in a composition for a really energized color burst.

Windowsill Veggies

15x22 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper, painted wet in wet a few years ago, a still life of bell peppers, tomatoes, garlic and potted herbs in a sunny windowsill.  I painted this again as a demo for east Texas painters and that one has a red bell in front.  Some negative work was done on the plant leaves.  This piece is SOLD.

WIP step 2 - Some Like it Hot still life

Today's work continued on with adding detail and correcting values of the veggies.  The red purple onion on right side was painted.  I did add a slight shadow on the white metal colander by red bell pepper.  You can see four photo refs I've stuck to the Plexiglas.

Cry Me a River (onions)

10x14 watercolor and ink on handmade 140 lb rough cold press paper.  Drawn from life I exaggerated the usual white and brown tones into a party-like confetti explosion of color.  This painting was accepted into a watercolor society show in Houston a few years back.
