Cat Reflections

4x3.75 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper painted yesterday.  With doing so many figurative and portrait sketches this month I have to sneak a cat painting in somehow.  This ginger orange kitty is enjoying his morning sunlight in the windows.  See if you can find all three reflections.

Al's Kitty

6x4 watercolor and ink line on paper, a magazine insert, that I grabbed to sketch after meeting this fat, fluffy black cat. It belongs to Al, a retired golf pro, who is our neighbor in New Mexico.  A WWII veteran, Al takes care of the strays, and when I need my DH gone awhile, Al takes him to a golf course for a lesson.  This solid black cat of his suns herself on our condo steps so was there to greet me with a friendly purr. Now will have to post this on Facebook's 30 Cats in 30 Days Challenge as started by Valri Ary.

Calico Cat and Fall Leaves

6x6 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper of a calico cat sitting amongst fall leaves.  She blends right in! I painted this about 2 years ago and named it "I'm Leavin'".  I really enjoyed painting all the negative shaped leaves.

White Cat Siesta

Evildoer Siamese Cat repost

15x11 watercolor wet in wet painted yesterday and reposted here after some touchups done.  I really looked at Jezebel today and thought her little face was too dark in the painting, not allowing for her creamy fur to show above the eye and on top of her head. So I lifted and smoothed out with a Fritch scrubber brush from Cheap Joe's.  Also her left front leg was too wide so corrected that and finally took out the very top of her arched back to have a lost edge.  That was my intention yesterday but got too involved and didn't.So now my studio kitty should read as a better pet portrait.

Bad Boy kitty

11.25x11 watercolor of an imaginary black cat jumping up onto a kitchen sink, obviously a bad boy indeed.  I used Saunders 140 lb cold press paper and Daniel Smith paints.

Lounge Lizard

22x20 watercolor on Kilimanjaro 140 lb cold press paper.  I took a photo of a regular cat and made him pink, green and yellow on a red orange lounge chair.

Black Cat Silhouette

7.5 x 11 watercolor of a black cat's outline against a twilight sky using opaque paints.  This work was done all mixes of blacks then scrubbed out and negative spaces filled in around head, body, and whiskers.

Bird Hunting

22x15 watercolor on Arches 140 lb hot press paper of our old cat Bootsie who lived to be 17. Last year we had to say goodbye to him as his bird hunting days were coming to a close.

Neiman
