30x22 acrylic, watercolor and wax crayon on 140 lb cold press paper, a reworked older one that was not working in my opinion. I spent all one weekend afternoon overhauling this one darkening the pond water, glazing over the top portion to push the middle and foreground lilypads forward for more focus.

Lookout Gull
12x6 watercolor done last week, brush only, so no pencil drawing or sketch first. This fellow was from one of my Indian Rocks Beach photos taken in August last year. I used a fairly limited palette of raw umber, UB, Coastal Fog, and indigo. Support used: Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper.

Tropical Trees - negative painting
12x9 watercolor on 140 lb cold press Canson paper, a negative painting exercise I began to demo last week at the Florida workshop. First lay in light value wash of varied colors, let dry, then take the next value and paint behind in between spaces to form tree shapes, going darker each time. No pencil drawing was done. With this imaginary scene, I've put the setting sun on bottom left with water.

Lilypad Illusions
11.5 x 28.5 watercolor over abstract underpainting with several blues and aureolin yellow applied very wetly. When dry, I used my #28 round brush only (no pencil) to do negative painting establishing forms of the pads. No masking fluid used, only paper over white flowers secured with bits of masking tape. Daniel Smith paints were used; backruns encouraged and enhanced.
