Branch Shadows

5.5x5.5 watercolor, acrylic, and white gel pen on Arteza 110 lb cold press paper done last week using stencils, pulled prints, and stamps except for the bird that was sketched in pencil first. In this imaginary composition we can imagine the bird being alone amongst the green foliage and shadows. COPYRIGHT 2021 Kay Smith

Pelican on the Pier

10.5x6.75 mixed media on paper done over this past weekend using crayon, Tombow burnt sienna brush pen nib, watercolor, walnut ink, and charcoal.  For an online challenge we had 2 hours to choose an image and paint it.  These oft-overlooked birds are common around water and I've always loved to paint or sketch them in their comical ways.

Clever Crow

9x12 mixed watermedia on Canson 140 lb cold press paper. Using a sheet that I put underneath other works supplied various abstract markings in acrylics, ink, and watercolor.  I took the bird out of his natural environment and placed him here as if snatching morsels of food from his surroundings.
