Blooming Boot in junk journal
8.25x5.25 acrylics in junk journal done a few weeks ago after painting the larger boot commission. In this imaginary still life the viewer's attention is focused on the blue contrast with the yellow and orange flowers. Only a few more pages and the journal will be finished.

4x6 mixed media on 140 lb Canson wc paper recently done. I cut up an older watercolor work that already had bold color stripes then added botanical shapes for green lotus pods in ink pen, then washed across with pale acrylics.

Pam's Boot
28x22 acrylics on canvas, an imaginary boot bouquet commission recently done. I used several floral stencils for the patterns on the boot and various flowers such as the Texas bluebonnet, sunflowers, poppy, roses, and peony buds along with saguaro cactus and a feather. This work is SOLD.

Mushroom Madness

An Aspen Alley
4.5x3.5 watercolor on 140 lb cold press paper done about a week and a half ago, an imaginary autumn aspen tree scene. I remember being too scared to paint trees so would avoid them but after studying their characteristics and sketching them in various stages of growth, they have become easier.

Cunning Coyote
24x18 acrylics over a watercolor portrait of a woman named Carol. It was sketched then filled in but leaving her patterned scarf for the coyote's right ear and fur. A Trunk Show
15x22 watercolor, Brusho, and black India ink on 140 lb cold press paper recently redone as one of my pieces for the fall Caboose Watercolor Society show "A Brush with Creativity". Opening day is Saturday, Sept. 17 from 1130-1:30 at Heritage museum 510 Scurry in Big Spring. The concept was when planning this exhibit to enhance, redo, or rearrange elements in existing paintings. These imaginary elephants only had pale color plus the ink outlines. I added grey, tan, and black Brusho crystals to focus on the animals' skin. Dates for show: Sept. 17 - Oct. 29, 2022.

Stallion Colors
9x6 watercolor on Grumbacher 140 lb cold press paper painted on Wednesday during our art association paint in at my studio. Using clip art as a guide, pencil sketch emphasizing curved lines of the horse's mane and body was done using bright contemporary colors.

Sunflower Petals in the Wind
9x12 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper, a painting demo done on Monday for art students. Roughly I sketched in pencil the sunflower petals and stem in almost a blind contour method (to remain loose), then laid in colors in 15 minutes. Background was added after this dried with a 1" flat brush. Reference was one of my sunflower photos.

Beautiful Black Cat

Penguin on the Rocks
8.5x5.5 watercolor and ink line on paper in Masters sketchbook done over the past weekend in another online challenge. Sketched with STA 0.1 pen, neutral mixed black was put in along with other neutral colors in this wildlife scene on a rocky beach.

Whiskey
9x7 watercolor and black India ink on 140 lb cold press paper done over the past weekend as part of a WetCanvas! online challenge. Participants have two hours to select an image, draw, then paint. All the warm amber tones in this glass of whiskey was a delight to paint along with the patterned glass.

Wind Dancers
5x9 watercolor on Canson 140 lb cold press paper painted last week using an earlier sketch from life. I used yellow wildflowers from the vacant lot next door then colored some purple as well as the background in the first painting; this one, however, was cerulean blue for sky. The first painting from the flowers was purchased by Caravan, a Colorado card company.

Autumn Mood
12x9 watercolor done last week on Canson 140 lb cold press paper, an imaginary grouping of trees and a background of multilayered fall colors. The golden hues were put in wet in wet quickly and when dry the trees stark branches, trunks, etc., were added with a script liner #1 brush in warm sepia.

Colorful Cows
15x22 watercolor and black India ink line on 140 lb Lanaquarelle hot press paper. I sketched these bovine beauties with black India ink applicator on dry paper. With a loaded brush #12 Escoda round I put random colors together instead of the usual boring black and brown or tan. When almost done I wet a few areas then dropped ink in splotches.
