I did adjust the highlights and contrast but not sure it helped much.

Back to Florals with a Bouquet

15x11 watercolor on Strathmore 140 lb cold press paper, drawn and painted from a florist's bouquet. Its leaves are actually down inside a clear glass vase. This is only a detail of the actual arrangement.

Trumpet of the Lord

22x15 watercolor on Italia acquerello 140 lb cold press paper, done yesterday for a challenge on www.WetCanvas.com The angel was actually cemetary statuary so I removed its base and portrayed her as if floating in clouds with her horn calling the saints on in.

The hymn "When the Roll is Called up Yonder" came to mind and the verse "When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more, and the morning breaks eternal bright and fair..."

Politicians

22x15 watercolor on Saunders 140 lb cold press paper. Using only b&w photos I drew each fur-person carefully then painted wet on dry using imagination. On right hand side with orange bg is a Siamese and that is Jezebel, studio kitty.
It was hard to find a sleezy name and many nouns such as Scalawags (too doggish), Jailbait, Devils in Fur Coats, came to mind but politicians seemed to fit perfectly. I love the one wet kitty on the left. I hope the cat lovers admire this one as it took awhile to do.

Daily Special

22x15 watercolor on 140 lb hot press paper. This chef was drawn from one of my little chef figurines then painted, which is the best way to learn form. The United Way has used him as their logo image. He appears to be juggling hot dishes in front of the lettuce, my kind of kitchen.

Cosmos Charm

22x15 watercolor on Italia 140 lb cold press paper; some had emailed asking would I post the painting that was juried into Unwin's The Artistic Touch 4 book. So here it is! I will ship out a complimentary copy to the painting's owners, Mr. & Mrs. Rick Jackson in Phoenix, who have been collecting me for many years now.

I drew this from silk cosmos in a vase from Petals, a floral supply company whom I don't think is in business anymore, and painted as an online demo about 2 years ago.

Fashion Plate

22x15 watercolor on Saunders Waterford 140 lb cold press paper with primary colors underpainting. The manikin's hair and face were drawn first from an unusual viewpoint below the figure's waist looking upwards. A number of these lifeless models were fashion plates, wearing the finest women's clothing, from a Margaret's store exhibit in Lubbock, Texas. The store was an icon of quality couture for many years. Of course I exercised my artistic license and changed her dress from red and black to these magenta and purple/pinks.

Penguin in Pearls collage

This is the other challenge finished in which you had to do your previous one in collage using paper cut-outs. I chose to use Veranda magazine ads torn from old mags and made to fit. I placed them on with Yes! paste and matte medium onto Crescent matboard.
Size is 13.25 x 10 inches.
Now this afternoon was total fun making him debonair and dapper in his tux and pearls

Dapper Flapper

This oh-so dapper fellow is about to jump from his cold rocky cliff ledge into the icy water below. Done today this 11x12 watercolor was first drawn with black pigma micron pen then washes applied, darks first. Part of a weekend drawing event on WetCanvas.com, he was drawn in 10 minutes and painted in 1/2 hour; photo courtesy Michelle. We have a 2 hour time limit to draw and paint an image out of 16 posted photos with a challenge added by the host. Michelle's challenge was to do a watercolor/pen wash or cut out paper depicting your subject. Stay tuned for my penguin made out of Veranda magazine pages. Hint: He's wearing pearls!

Got the Blues!

I thought I posted this watercolor here but I put it on Art Colony blog first. It is 15x21.75 and was painted on the backside of a failed acrylic that had wax crayon lines. If you look closely you can see these lines that I decided to include within the composition of these fresh blueberries. I used a paper doily as a background stencil for a suggestion of lace; this creates repetition of the round holes in the old colander/strainer.
